If the Internet, cell phones, or other forms of digital media did not exist, would your life be better or worse?

If internet, cell phones and other forms of digital media never existed then i think the world would be worse. What if there was a shooter in your block, you couldnt just turn on the news and see that you would have to wait till someone came to tell you, and quite frankly you might already be dead. So digital media has bad effects, but when you think about it everything thats good has a bad effect. Light bulbs, they are thought to be good, but now people are saying there bad and that its causing global warming. If we had no digital media a lot of people would usually think its good and that we should get rid of it. I personally think it would be worse.

How would you feel if you could not use digital media for a week? Would your life be different in any way?

I think that getting rid of digital media for one week would be very interesting. All communication over seas would be lost, all news broadcasts would be gone all sense of connection to each other will be lost. I think it would impact everyone's life dramatically. It would change my life by a lot. No contact with friends after school or when im at home it would result in all teens being out later because they want to talk to their friends.

"With Power Comes Responsibility: " What does that mean in regards to your digital life?

When your on any digital media you have a certain power weather to be mean and irresponsible on the internet or nice and responsible. With the access that we have because of the media comes responsibility.

What do you have to do to be good digital citizens?

To be a good digital citizen you must be responsible on the internet. You need to use your knowledge in media help and be responsible on the internet.

What have you learned from your research about the up and downs of digital citizenship?

I have learned that the ups of digital citizenship are knowing weather or not your doing the right thing on the internet and helping others with their digital citizenship. the downs of it is sometimes its not cool to have digital citizenship and you dont know what to do.

    anchor questions
    1. If the Internet, cell phones, or other forms of digital media did not exist, would your life be better or worse?

My life would be better and worse if internet, cell phones, and other forms of digital media didn't exist. It would be better because i would be able to study more and exercise more. There would also be less drama that comes from social networks like twitter, facebook, instagram etc. However, no internet and tv would make my life worse because i would not know about current events around the world and it would be hard to communicate with my friends and family.

    2. How would you feel if you could not use digital media for a week? Would your life be different in any way?

If i couldnt use digital media for a week, my grades would be better and i would be more active outside. The problem would be that i wont be able to text or call anyone. Also i would have a lot of instagram pictures to check when i get my phone back.

    3. "With Power Comes Responsibility: " What does that mean in regards to your digital life?

This means that on the internet you need to be responsible and not post bad things because what you post on the internet, doesnt come off, even if you delete it.

    4. What do you have to do to be good digital citizens? What have you learned from your research about the up and downs of digital citizenship?

To be a good digital citizen, you need to have respect online and watch what you post. You also need to make sure that you dont post personal information because people can find you. I learned that what you post online can come back to you and it can ruin your life. The bad thing about that is that you have to always make sure that you are not posting bad things and that can get annoying.

    Assignment
If the Internet, cell phones, or other forms of digital media did not exist, would your life be better or worse?

That depend on whether or not I would have been born into a world with all these things. If I had, and these things had been taken away from me, then it would be a hard hit to my everyday life. We have come to depend upon technology, and taking it away would trigger the kind of shock reaction similar to that when a drug or alcohol addict stops drinking or using drugs. If not, however, life would have been completely different from the beginning. Life would have been as it was before the invention of these things- more isolated, less connected on a global scale, but perhaps more connected on a personal and social level- tighter knit neighborhoods, more face-to-face interaction, and so forth.

How would you feel if you could not use digital media for a week? Would your life be different in any way?

It would be very hard for me, especially because right now I can't play any sports because of a condition in my heel called Plantar Fasciitis, and some of the only things I do for fun include my computer for surfing the web, and my iPod for listening to music, more specifically, rap (Eminem, Dr. Dre, etc.) Thankfully, I am also a great artist and enjoy drawing, as well as reading, and writing stories of my own. So, to answer the question, it would indeed be very hard for me, but I would learn to cope with the circumstances.

"With Power Comes Responsibility: " What does that mean in regards to your digital life?
What do you have to do to be good digital citizens? What have you learned from your research about the up and downs of digital citizenship?

The so called great power is being able to use the internet, more specifically, social media such as facebook, twitter, youtube, vine, and more. The great responsibility, in turn, is using social media responsibly. Not everyone listens to this advice, and because of this, many kids end up taking their lives. Cyberbullies are some of the most harmful people out there in terms of hurting others. Much less harmful but extremely annoying are "trolls," people who spam the comments section of websites posting things that annoy other on purpose. From there comes the internet phrase "don't feed the trolls," which basically means ignore the annoying, obnoxious person who shamelessly spams the website. A good digital citizen would do well to follow this rule, for the trolls usually go away when ignored.
